Application for Access to Archival Materials

For materials that are in fragile condition or require specialized knowledge, we provide the Advance Appointment Service and the Application for Special Collections categories, which can be available after asking about specific research purposes at the time of application. 

*Firstly, please check the collection’s contents you wish to use on the Collections List. The method for viewing (A, B or C) is different depending on the mark shown in the How to Access column. Please be sure to adhere to the content given in the Notes on Use column. 

A. Materials available in the Art Library

Day and Time of Use  Viewing available on the day when the Art Library opens.
Only materials located in the Annex are NOT available on Saturdays, Sundays, and national holidays.
How to Use
    1. Click the link for the NACT Online Library Catalog (OPAC) in the Finding Aids column in the Collections List to display the search results list. Select the title of materials you wish to see from the list to open the search result details and check the Location column. 
    2. For material NOT marked with "[Reservation]xxx " in the Location column, please request it at the counter of the Art Library (Main Building 3F).

B．Materials available for Advance Appointment Service

How to Use 
    1. Click the link for the NACT Online Library Catalog (OPAC) in the Finding Aids column in the Collections List to display the search results list. Select the title of materials you wish to see from the list to the search result details and check the Location column.
    2. .For materials marked with "[Reservation]xxx " in the Location column, these are materials that require reservation up to 10 days before the desired viewing day. Please click the link in the Location column to go to the Advance Appointment Service page to make a reservation.

C．Special Collections

Date and time of use  Individual consultation is held after application (not available on Saturdays, Sundays and national holidays, and Year-end and New Year’s holidays). 
How to Use 
  • Fill out the form and submit it by email as an attachment. The email address is shown on the application form. 
  • Based on the contents of the application (consultation) received, NACT will carry out the selection/refinement of suitable materials. For that reason, in the case of some materials, it may take some time before they are ready to view. Please submit your application form well in advance. 
  • If you are applying to view the ANZAÏ Photo Archive, please also complete the lower part of page 2 with the Admin. No. and Artist Name/Subject Name of the photos you wish to view. 
If you only wish to make inquiries about materials in the collection 
  • If you have queries such as, it’s hard to identify the material, I don’t know if the material I want to view is included, and I don’t understand how to proceed, please include them in the Messages column on the application form and submit it by email as an attachment. The email address is shown on the application form.

  • Having decided on a viewing day and time in consultation with you, we will issue a viewing permit.
  • Based on the content of the application (consultation) received, the NACT will carry out the selection/refinement of suitable materials. For that reason, in the case of some materials, it may take some time before they are ready to view.
  • It may not be possible to view certain materials due to their preservation state and the protection of personal information. Also, there may be cases where digital reproductions are offered instead of the originals.
  • Regarding the number of items that may be requested per reservation, please be sure to check the Notes on Use column of each collection.
  • Viewing shall be carried out by the person given in the Applicant Name column only (except caregivers). If multiple people wish to carry out research, please submit application form for each person.
  • On the day of viewing, please view materials following the instructions of the staff.
  • This application is for viewing only. If you wish to reproduce, feature or display material, it is necessary for the applicant to obtain copyright permission themselves, and then make a separate application. Even when citing the material in a thesis, or journal article, it may be necessary to obtain copyright permission.
  • Applications for copyright permission must be carried out by the applicants themselves; the NACT cannot act on their behalf.
    If issues arise regarding copyright law and other laws because of the use of materials, the applicant must take sole responsibility.
